introduction
Born and raised in Singapore, Joel is an aspiring designer with a keen interest in fashion that embodies
style and comfort, executed with technical excellence. During his education in London, Joel obtained a
Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from Central Saint Martins. Subsequently, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bespoke Tailoring (First Class Honours) from London College of Fashion. Over the past decade, Joel has received multiple design awards and recognition, and recently gained industry experience on an eleven-month global design fellowship in New York.

DESIGN FELLOWSHIP
In September 2018, Joel embarked on a global design fellowship with Ann Taylor at their design headquarters in New York. Working alongside cross-functional teams and managed by the Design Lead and Senior Director of Design, Joel gained valuable skills and experience in multiple industry-standard pre-production phases. These include competitive market research, digital illustration, communicating fabric and color requests, creating technical packs for prototypes and line reviews, attending detailed fittings, and setting up seasonal line sheets. Below highlights some of the categories and products Joel has worked on during his time with the company.

WORKING WITH THE LUCANS
a personal and enriching work experience with the
Earl and Countess of Lucan on their namesake brand:
Lucan Fashion
During his final year at London College of Fashion, Joel worked part-time at Lucan Fashion as a fashion and technical designer. He worked closely with founders and senior designers Anne-Sofie Lucan, George Lucan and Sir Timothy Everest on the brand's capsule collections and various partnership projects. The images and work displayed here feature two of Lucan's several trademark pieces - the Sligo Jacket and Spanish Breeches. The company's mission to design bold and functional town and country-wear has broadened Joel's industry knowledge through designing for certain demographics and end-users.

BESPOKE TAILORING
humble beginnings steeped in training and practice
Over the years, Joel has worked with fashion companies of various operating capacities, starting with the tailoring houses in London. His first stints in 2016 included being a personal assistant and in-house bespoke alteration tailor at Selwyn Lloyd Bespoke, offering customized tailoring and alteration services on Liverpool Street. Following this, he had the privilege to learn from some of the finest craftsmen in the world of bespoke tailoring at Gieves & Hawkes on 1 Savile Row. At this 248-year-old establishment, he was trained under the direct supervision of head cutter Davide Taub, cutters Riki Brockman and Nina Penlington, and master tailor Robert Parker. During these months, Joel honed his skills in bespoke pattern-drafting, striking, cutting, machine- and hand-sewing, as well as bespoke alteration techniques, adding to his skill set learnt from university.
BESPOKE KID-WEAR
As part of Major Project Realisation, the final year project at London College of Fashion, Joel explored the genre of children's clothing. These pages depict his design and tailoring processes that led to the creation of a cape-sleeve coat and adjustable dress for a 2-year-old client.
